Aren’t you excited about this 4th?? It landed on the best day too, so of course we have to make this an amazing 3 day weekend. I think we deserve the biggest celebration we’ve had since Memorial Day so lets start off with some drinks. I gathered some for you to try, they are cool, delicious and strong. All very different factors but equally important.
8 cups fresh strawberries, trimmed and halved
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 750 milliliter bottle white wine such as Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio
1 cup sliced fresh strawberries
2 cups sparkling water, chilled
1 orange, sliced
Directions:
1. To prepare syrup, in a large saucepan combine trimmed and halved strawberries, sugar, and water. Bring just to boiling, stirring to dissolve sugar. Remove from heat. Cover; cool to room temperature
2. Press mixture, a little at a time, through a mesh sieve; discard solids (you should have about 3 cups syrup). In a 2-quart pitcher, stir together the syrup, wine, and sliced strawberries. Cover and chill up to 24 hours.
3. Before serving, stir in the sparkling water. Serve in glasses with orange slices.
For Cherry Syrup-
½ cup sugar
½ cup water
1 lb sweet cherries, pitted and roughly chopped
For assembly and serving—
1 tbsp minced fresh mint (each glass)
¼ cup cherry syrup (each glass)
juice of 1 lime each
2 oz light rum each
8 oz sparkling water each
Directions
1. Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepot on the stove. Bring to a boil and stir so that all the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and add fresh, chopped cherries. Stir and refrigerate for about 2 hours, or until chilled. You can make this cherry syrup ahead of time and keep covered in the fridge.
2. When you’re ready to make your mojitos, drop a tablespoon of fresh minced mint in each glass, followed by ¼ cup of cherry syrup and juice of 1 lime. Using the end of a wooden spoon (or whatever you have!) muddle the mixture together. Then add 2 oz rum and about a cup of sparkling water. Add ice! Serve with additional mint and cherries.
Time:
2 hours (including time to make and chill cherry syrup)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1oz Blue Curacao
1oz Peach Shcnapps
2oz vodka (preferably citrus)
Fill the rest up with Sprite
Pour ingrédients into an ice filled collins glass and stir that puppy. Garnish with some sort of citrus fruit, or nothing, it’s up to you.
I’m trying at least 2 of these today and hope that you get around to doing the same! Don’t drink it up before you guests arrive.
Enjoy and drink responsibility and
Cheers my dears!
